Karanda Chaplaincy Project
CURRENT INITATIVES
BIBLE DISTRIBUTION
At Karanda, the Chaplaincy works actively to spread the word of God and to provide spiritual health and guidance throughout the hospital and surrounding community. The main aim of the project is to procure 2,000 Bibles a year which will be gifted to Pastors who will use them within the community. Additional bibles are sold at purchase price to benefit the hospital.
Focusing on Shona texts, Karanda ensures that the word of God is available in the local language.
AUDIO BIBLES
Audio bibles are also purchased in Shona to reach the 30% of the population who are unable to read and write due to age, disability or orphans who were unable to attend school. These audio bibles can be charged by solar power, adding an extra benefit for those in need of hearing God’s word.
GOSPEL TRACKS
Karanda actively seeks gospel tracks, the aim is 2,000 locally purchased Shona tracks and 200 donated English tracks per year.
LOOKING AHEAD
TELEVISIONS IN WARDS
A long-term goal for the department is to upgrade the Karanda Radio to TVs so that devotional images and movie screenings can provide spiritual healing directly in the wards.
CHAPLAIN’S VEHICLE
When a patient spends time at Karanda Mission Hospital they are like family and the Chaplaincy ensures their spiritual needs are met, however once discharged it can be difficult for the team to attend to their families in the event that something happens once they are home. In order to benefit the community and provide proper assistance for patients who are at home, a vehicle is requested to enable to the team to attend and continue God’s work.
